LAHORE: Karachi Kings picked New Zealand legend Kane Williamson, former Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi and young top-order batter Omair Bin Yousuf in the Supplementary category of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 Player Draft here on Monday.
Prior to the Supplementary round, the Karachi Kings have made two valuable selections in the emerging category, beginning with the talented fast bowler, Fawad Ali. Hailing from the picturesque region of Swat, Fawad Ali has emerged through the Karachi Kings’ player development program known as “Khiladi Ki Khoj.” His selection reflects the franchise’s commitment to nurturing local talent.
Alongside him, the Kings have also picked the promising young batter, Muhammad Riazullah, who comes from Upper Dir. Riazullah recently showcased his skills on the international stage, representing Pakistan in the 2024 ACC U19 Asia Cup, where he shone brightly as one of the tournament’s standout performers, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer with an impressive 227 runs across four matches, boasting an exceptional average of 75.66.
Following the emerging category selections, the Karachi Kings made waves by acquiring one of the greatest cricketers from New Zealand, Kane Williamson, in the Supplementary category. The former New Zealand captain brings a wealth of experience to the team, having played 105 Test matches, 165 ODIs, and 93 T20Is.
Throughout his T20I career, he has amassed 2,575 runs at an average of 33.44. In addition, his domestic and franchise T20 exploits are equally impressive, with a total of 6,502 runs at an average of 31.87, including one century and 46 half-centuries.
Karachi Kings continued to strengthen their roster with the addition of Mohammad Nabi, the versatile all-rounder from Afghanistan, also picked in the Supplementary category. Nabi, who previously donned the Karachi Kings jersey during the 2021 PSL season, is renowned for his prowess in franchise cricket, having participated in an astounding 422 T20 matches since his debut in 2010.
With a prolific tally of 6,089 runs at a striking strike rate of 134.83 and an impressive record of 361 wickets at an average of 24.82, he is considered one of the most sought-after players in the format.
In the third pick of Supplementary round, the Karachi Kings have enrolled Omair Bin Yousuf, a local talent from Karachi who previously played for the Quetta Gladiators. In his T20 career, he has demonstrated his capability with the bat, scoring 1,024 runs in just 40 matches, with an average of 33.03 and an impressive strike rate of 131.45.
Mirza Mamoon Imtiaz, a talented left-arm wrist spinner, was selected as the final supplementary pick by the Karachi Kings.
